Position: Production Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the supervision, safety, and production of underground production mining employees. This role plays a pivotal role in the daily operation of the underground production department, including leading crews of miners towards safety and production goals. Key responsibilities in the job include safety training and enforcement, team leadership, goal setting and attainment, and heavy equipment operation training.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains the safety of the crew at all times including pre-shift safety talks, ground control and compliance with company and MSHA regulations.
- Participation in departmental training and planning.
- Provide effective employee coaching, training, and development.
- Resolves employee issues through problem resolution. Properly documents employee performance and behavior issues as they arise.
- Performs accident investigations to company and MSHA standards.
- Balances employee production, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results.
- Works towards continuous improvement in all areas, including safety, quality, production and costs.
- Assigns personnel to specific work areas and daily goals – Works with staff daily to cover staffing vacancies and maximize the utilization of available mining equipment.
- Maintains proper inventory levels of necessary materials and communicates when additional inventory is needed.
- Oversees shift priorities and manage shift specific goals.
- Tracks employee attendance and performance. Provides proper coaching and feedback to employees to improve productivity and effectiveness. Cross trains employees in mining equipment and techniques when applicable.Â
- Understanding and implementation of work standards as related to MSHA regulations.
- Any other duties assigned by management
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience – 3+ years of hands-on-heavy equipment operating experience on a variety of mining related equipment.Â
- Leadership – The ability to work well with others and lead by example through the effective operation of heavy equipment in the employee’s current position.
- Planning – The ability to think ahead and create a plan that will maximize performance and results.
- Supervision & Training – Experience effectively supervising and/or training employees preferred.
- Ability to work and collaborate with multiple departments throughout an organization.
- Demonstrated success working in mining departments outside of underground production is a plus (Rehab, Maintenance, Surface Production etc.).Â
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Team player.
- Attend management selected training courses, seminars, and/or exhibitions as required.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma and 3+ years of experience such as mining and/or a manufacturing background.

This position is required to work in an area that is dusty and that may expose an individual to occasional diesel fumes. In addition, work surfaces under feet may include solid concrete, be uneven, contain heaves, boulders, and other aggregate material that could cause unstable footing and that would require an individual to stand upon for at least eight (8) hours per day or at least forty (40) hours per week.
This is an in-person position at American Rock Salt located at 5520 Route 63, Mount Morris, NY 14510.
